Subject: NYPD Brutal BeatingS @ Ife Lounge Saturday

Hey ya’ll…

I am writing today with a heavy heart. And for me no matter how much
the world seems to dissappoint me I always want to bounce back. But
this time is a little different.

I and another lesbian in the community were involved in a BRUTAL
BEATING by ALL MALE COPS the 77th PRECINCT of the NYPD.

It took place at the IFE LOUNGE, corner of Nostrand & Atlantic in
Brooklyn. I know for a fact there were at least 100-200 woman outside
at the time and I am hearing rumors of video footage. LOOK LADIES…
IF YOU FIND CAN FIND A PARTY SO F-IN IMPORTANT, THAT YOU HAVE THE TIME
TO TELL A FRIEND TO TO TELL A FRIEND TO POST BULLETINS TO EMAIL
FLYERS. THEN I WOULD HOPE YOU WOULD HAVE THE TIME TO ASK A FRIEND TO
ASK A FRIEND TO ASK A FRIEND TO FIND PICTURES VIDEOS, WRITTEN
TESTIMONY TO SUPPORT THE FACT THAT TWO OF YOUR OWN WERE BEATEN IN THE
STREET BY POLICE!!!

NOT ONLY WERE WE BEATEN, COPS HURLED ANTI-GAY STATEMENTS AS THEY
RAISED THIER NIGHT STICKS IN THE AIR. LIKE “YOU FUCKIN BITCH ASS
DYKE”… AND THEN HAD THE AUDACITY IN FRONT OF THEIR OWN SEARGENT AND
THE REST OF THERE BROTHERS AND SISTERS SAY “WE ARE HAVIN SOME DYKE
PUSSY IN HERE TONIGHT”

Really ladies… This crime wasn’t about me or about the other female
involved. As I laid there and I felt the night sticks hit me, I
thought of Martin Luther King, and what he had to endure just for us
to have the freedoms we do today. I immediately relaxed my body, put
my arms up where they can see I wasn’t resisting, and screamed at the
top of my lungs for someone to hit record on there camera. As they
pulled me into the car I knew then that they picked the wrong quote
unquote “DYKE”, to mess with.

TODAY!!! ITS TIME FOR US TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!! I don’t know about
you, but I am absolutely tired of the way police, club owners &
bouncers treat us. If you didn’t know what they think about YOU. I
hope you RECOGNIZE NOW, what it really is.

THIS IS WHAT WE NEED:
VIDEO FOOTAGE
PICTURE FOOTAGE
WRITTEN TESTIMONIES W/CONTACT INFORMATION
PLEASE EMAIL ME ASAP!!!

DON’T LET ANYONE TELL YOU IT ISN’T YOUR BUSINESS, IT IS. IF YOU HANG
WITH US, PRAY WITH US, IF YOU PARTY WITH US, IF YOU SHOW YOUR PRIDE
WITH US, THIS CRIME WAS COMMITTED AGAINST YOU AND MEMBERS OF YOUR
FAMILY.

I was directed to this page after an internet search for “beatings at Ife Lounge”. I received an email from a friend of a friend about an alleged gay-bashing by NYPD officers, which immediately upset me. However, after researching the incident, I find that the women involved in the “gay-bashing” are gang-banging criminals with associates in the prison system already. I’m really horrified at the fact that lesbians (especially those of us who are visible as such), and specifically lesbians of color, are now going to be associated as gang-bangers when many of us are normal people who don’t have criminal records and aren’t involved in this type of activity.
I really feel for the two women who were beaten up by the cops and called these names. At the same time, if I or any of my lesbian friends were to come into your “territory”, we’d probably have to fear for our lives. Violence begets violence.

The main aspect of your blog that moved me the most was the passion and anger behind your words. When you talked about the beatings and the homosexual slurs, I felt the anger and the emotions you experienced during the assault. Your words moved me to act on the injustice that you went through that night, fighting both the homophobia and violence the cops instigated. After the trauma you suffered, how can you still manage to fight for what you believe in? How do you not succumb to the hatred and revenge? What would you like people to learn from your experience?

I am so sorry for the pain you endurred at the hands of these “police”. The motto “to serve and protect” is a joke to them. In July I too was not only falsley arrested by the same police, but the police “woman”, Officer Bristol who arrested me called me Hew, as well as the booking officer, Officer Ridriguez, who conveniently disappeared. When it came time for my phone call, they picked up the phone then dropped it and smashed it and said “uh not good reception here”(this was my first arrest and I told them I was calling a lawyer). Officer Bristol took me in a room and put her hands where they did not belong. I cried and screamed. Officer Rodriguez said the more I screamed the longer I would have to wait to be released. I am still traumatized. How can these pieces of crap get away with this???

I feel sick. How can people be inside of a club wathcing – and not go outside and DO SOMETHING?! Oh, I forgot, we don’t do anything anymore.
I am writing from Oregon, I will spread the word to all the activists I know.
